Have the Smile You always Wanted with Sedation Dentistry

Many people postpone dental visits, or—worse—do not see a dentist at all because they are afraid, anxious or stressful about seeing one. Sedation dentistry will allow you to see to your dental needs. It is a safe and effective method of dental care in which a mild oral sedative is used with nitrous oxide.

If you want to get the smile you have always wanted without stress or anxiety, consider sedation dentistry. Oral sedation dentistry has been in use for more than 30 years, for many dental procedures, including dental implants. It is properly administered and monitored, and your professional will explain how it can help you, says Dentistry IQ.

On your appointment date, you will be instructed to take a small pill and then have a family member or a trusted friend bring you to your dental office. After the sedative starts working, a dental assistant will help to make you comfortable and will stay by your side throughout the whole procedure. This assistant will answer any questions you might have, and ensure that you are comfortable.

It is quite likely that you will feel no pain at all during your procedure, or after it.  You may not fully remember the visit, either. Your companion will take you home, and should remain with you.

Do not attempt any exercise after sedation dentistry. Do not drink alcohol or make important decisions.

Use anti-nausea medication if you need it, as ordered. This will calm your stomach. Pain medication can cause stomach upset. You may take both of these medications at the same time

If you feel as though you need to cough, you can chew or suck on small ice pieces.

Use lip balm to keep your lips moist and to prevent them from chapping.

Let your caregiver know if you have a fever, a headache or a cough. Also, tell your caregiver if you have an upset stomach or concerns about your care, condition or medication.

Get immediate help if you suddenly have trouble breathing or you have a headache with severe pain.
